This painting was a wonderful gift from a friend.

Dunnottar Castle is one of my favourite places. My husband and I have visited it three times and in different seasons, so we see something different on each visit. The most recent visit was in November, with a low sun stirring and exposing stonework with such clarity.

John's incredible talent has demonstrated the richness and depths of the shades of the stone, the huge sky and the different buildings within the castle site.

We recognised where John captured the painting. The painting brings back many happy memories. The gift of this painting has made my Christmas.

This watercolour painting by John Gerrie is a beautiful and atmospheric depiction of a dirt road in the woods. The painting is well-composed, with the narrow, winding road leading the viewer into the heart of the forest. The trees are tall and majestic, and their leaves are a vibrant green. The dirt road is dusty and well-worn, suggesting that it is a popular route for hikers and cyclists.

This watercolour painting is a beautiful example of the medium's potential. Gerrie has used watercolour to create a painting that is both atmospheric and detailed. The painting is sure to appeal to anyone who loves nature and the outdoors.

John Gerrie's watercolour painting of Loch Shiel on a sunny summer day is a stunning and evocative work of art. The painting captures the beauty and tranquility of the loch on a perfect day, with its clear blue waters, lush green hills, and distant mountains.

Gerrie's use of watercolours is masterful, and he has created a painting that is both light and airy, yet also rich in color and detail. The loch itself is a deep blue, with highlights of turquoise and green. The hills are a patchwork of greens. The distant mountains are a hazy blue, and the clouds above are white and fluffy.

The painting is also well-composed. Gerrie has placed the loch in the center of the painting, with the hills and mountains on either side. This creates a sense of balance and harmony. The painting is also very well-lit, with the sun shining down on the loch and the hills. This creates a sense of warmth and brightness.

Overall, John Gerrie's watercolour painting of Loch Shiel on a sunny summer day is a beautiful and well-executed work of art. It is a painting that would be a welcome addition to any home.

John Gerrie's watercolour painting of Balmoral Castle is a unique and striking interpretation of the iconic Scottish landmark. The painting is notable for its close-up perspective, which allows the viewer to appreciate the intricate details of the castle's architecture. John has also used a variety of watercolour washes to create a sense of depth and atmosphere, giving the castle a weathered and atmospheric appearance.

One of the most impressive aspects of the painting is John's ability to capture the different textures of the castle's stonework. The light grey granite is rendered with a variety of washes, from pale to dark, creating a sense of realism and depth. The climbing plants that adorn the castle walls are also rendered with great detail, their varied colours and textures adding to the overall visual richness of the painting.

John has also used the watercolour medium to great effect in creating a sense of atmosphere. The castle is bathed in a warm, golden light, which contrasts with the cool, gray tones of the sky and surrounding landscape. This creates a sense of timelessness and grandeur, as if the castle has been standing there for centuries.

Overall, John Gerrie's watercolour painting of Balmoral Castle is a stunning and evocative depiction of this iconic Scottish landmark. John's use of perspective, colour, and texture create a painting that is both visually appealing and intellectually stimulating.

Here are some specific things that I appreciate about the painting:

○ The close-up perspective allows the viewer to see the castle's intricate details, which are often overlooked in other paintings.

○ John's use of a variety of watercolour washes creates a sense of depth and atmosphere.

○ The way that John has captured the different textures of the castle's stonework is impressive.

○ The use of warm, golden light creates a sense of timelessness and grandeur.

I am delighted with the painting.

I led a group of 5 up Lochnagar that day, and you captured the mountain landscape wonderfully well from the original photo taken at the saddle.

Lochnagar brings back many happy memories for my wife and I of the numerous times we have climbed the mountain, including ascents via the Black Spout gulley.
