April Newsletter

As we transition from winter to the emergence of spring, March always stands out as a month of transition. However, this year in the northeast of Scotland, we have experienced fierce weather conditions, making it difficult to create new paintings outdoors. As a result, I have been working on paintings based on photographs of subjects that I had visited in the past.
Now that we have stepped into April, with the change in daylight hours and the sun rising higher in the sky, I find myself longing to be outside with my sketchbook and camera, searching for new and interesting subjects to draw and paint.
In this month's newsletter, I am excited to share with you two of my latest paintings, which you can find below. I would love to hear your thoughts on these or any of your favourite paintings.
I would also like to ask your assistance in creating a list of paintings to display in an upcoming exhibition. See below and on the home page for details.
I hope you enjoy the newsletter.

Iona Abbey is a medieval architectural wonder located on the island of Iona off Scotland's west coast, attracting pilgrims for centuries.
This area has special meaning for me and brings back special memories.
The result is a stunning painting reflecting Iona Abbey's natural beauty and rich history. This is a watercolour that I am incredibly proud to have painted.

Eas a' Bhradain Waterfall, Isle of Skye
My watercolour painting of Eas a’ Bhradain pays tribute to the natural beauty of the rugged and wild Isle of Skye.
This popular tourist attraction is located on the main A87 road from Broadford to Portree, where the abundance of rainfall feeds numerous waterfalls.
Using sketching, watercolour paints, and brush strokes, I've captured the intricate details of the rocky terrain and the rush of the cascading water. The vivid colours and delicate lines transport the viewer to a world of wonder, showcasing the awe-inspiring spectacle of this magnificent location.

Two Seasons at the Punch Bowl
The Punch Bowl on the River Quoich is a place that never looks the same twice. Standing there through different seasons makes that absolutely clear. In spring, the river fills its channel with power and noise, pushing hard through the rock and throwing up bright, lively reflections. By autumn, the same spot feels transformed. The water drops, hidden shapes emerge …
