July Newsletter

The July/August period is always taken as the summer holiday months for us living in Scotland, when we also keep fingers crossed for fine weather.

I had promised myself that I would go hunting with my list of subjects to paint and that I did when the light and weather permitted, coffee in a flask and sandwiches are always better when in a holiday relaxed mood.

I have noted that I lack watercolours of historic buildings in my portfolio, so I decided to drive to both Balmoral and Braemar Castles on Royal Deeside. Braemar Castle is undergoing renovations until next year 2024, but the outside re-harling is complete and in the summer sun looked stunning in its new livery that is an equal colour match to Craigievar Castle. That is now painted and on my website.

Balmoral Castle as the monarch’s traditional holiday home was also resplendent in summer light that I had to photograph given the complexity of its structure and number of tourists milling about. My watercolour of the Castle will be completed this month.

It was a suggestion that I hung a number of paintings at the Cults Church Hub over the summer. You can see further details in the article below.

In the meantime, please write to [email protected] and tell me what you are painting over the summer.

I hope you find this newsletter enjoyable.
