  • Image of my painting of Loch Muick in Summer

Loch Muick in Summer Splendour (Original)

    £300.00

Loch Muick in Summer Splendour is a vibrant watercolour capturing Scotland’s tranquil highland loch at its sunlit peak.

The painting blends smooth washes and white gouache to mirror the loch’s reflective surface, while sponge and tissue techniques evoke the lush greens of the hillsides and the vivid purple of summer heather. A graduated wet-on-wet sky forms drifting clouds, and gentle shafts of sunlight add atmosphere and movement.

This summer portrayal contrasts with an earlier winter scene, where muted blues, greys, and fine pen-and-ink details conveyed a frost-kissed stillness and introspection.

Together, both works celebrate Loch Muick’s timeless spirit, inviting viewers to experience its changing moods—from serene solitude to warm, radiant tranquillity.

    Lochnagar

Lochnagar: An Impressive Mountain in Royal Deeside (Original)

The vast mountain of Lochnagar has been a personal challenge to capture in a painting since I first climbed it in 1963.

The challenge was overcome in 2022 when a friend presented me with a photograph of Lochnagar he had recently taken when he was hillwalking.
