Tuscan Alleyway is a pen and ink painting with watercolour washes showing a small village in Tuscany. The subtle sun-washed sand colours give an impression of quiet thoughts only broken by the rich greens of the vineyards and trees. The painting shows a delicate scene down one alley and onwards to the countryside.
Tuscany is an area in northern Italy, that is known for its: landscapes, history, artistic legacy, and influence on high culture. It is sometimes considered “a nation within a nation”. It is regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.
Eight Tuscan localities have been designated World Heritage Sites. The Tuscan countryside
accommodates many farming villages that hold a history going back to Roman times. Many of these villages have settled from the past into semi-dilapidated or mature places that are a magnet for artists and tourists alike. They leave an indelible impression on the mind.
