A New Year of Inspiration and Creativity

With the Christmas and New Year festivities behind us, it's invigorating to look ahead to 2025. I’m filled with renewed energy to create paintings that push artistic boundaries. Patience, I’ve learned, is the key to overcoming obstacles, whether painting vivid Tuscan landscapes or capturing subtle architectural details.

This month, I’m delighted to share my latest work, Village in Tuscany, a watercolour inspired by Italian holiday memories. The painting celebrates Tuscany’s timeless charm through dynamic contrasts of light, shadow, and vibrant hues. It reflects the evolving tastes of modern clients, where simplicity meets bold colour.

Today’s art buyers are seeking pieces that harmonise with modern interiors—minimalist spaces enhanced by vibrant, expressive artworks. This trend has seen a rise in popularity for bold Acrylics and Oils. However, I continue to embrace watercolour for its ability to convey softness and authenticity, capturing subtle details and textures that resonate with personal memories.

Additionally, as a member of the Aberdeen Artists Society, my website is now featured on their platform, providing easier access for art enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more updates and works in the months ahead!

I hope you enjoy the newsletter and browsing the artwork on my website.

Warm regards,

John

Original watercolour of white cottages beside calm water with green trees and a stone wall
This original watercolour captures a peaceful waterside scene, where white cottages sit beside a quiet inlet or estuary.

The composition is framed by fresh green trees and a sloping lawn, leading the eye towards the buildings, stone wall and reflective water beyond.

Soft washes of blue and green create a calm, airy atmosphere, while the fine architectural details give the painting a strong sense of place and character.
