The Watercolour
A detailed sketch was essential to capture all aspects and facts of the original design. The preservation of the castle is reflected in the washes of off-white and creams on the walls. The blue roofs made this watercolour a complex study in painting. The final image within the landscape has been successful.
Some History
The Walt Disney Film Studio uses a cartoon image of Neuschwanstein Castle, with added fireworks, at the beginning of their films.
The castle was built by King Ludwig II during the 19th century as a private residence using personal funds. The Castle is decorated with scenes from Operas composed by Richard Wagner, a personal friend.

Thomas –
Neuschwanstein looks dramatic from this angle. The artist has really emphasised its fairy-tale towers rising above the forest. It’s easy to see why it inspired Disney. The view is magical.
