This month, I’m excited to introduce a new feature on the website, along with two new watercolours inspired by classical sculpture and the Scottish landscape.

Your Favourite Paintings is a feature that will allow you to identify your favourite artwork and this will allow you to create your own area to browse the paintings that mean the most to you.

🗿 The Caryatid – Grace and Strength in Stone
When we picture marble statues, we often think of masterpieces like the Venus de Milo or Michelangelo’s David—free-standing figures capturing elegance in stillness. But some marble works serve both form and function. The caryatid, for example, is a sculpted female figure that supports architecture, acting as a column in ancient Greek structures.

The most iconic caryatids stand at the Erechtheion on the Acropolis in Athens. Our featured watercolour pays tribute to this idea with subtle pen and ink lines, enhanced with gentle washes to evoke a striking three-dimensional effect.

🏞️ Loch Muick in Summer Splendour
Previously captured in the fading snow of late winter, Loch Muick returns—this time drenched in the vibrant light of midsummer. Lush greens cover the nearby hills, while purple heather lines a well-worn path in the foreground.
|
The untouched water surface, highlighted with white gouache, reflects a glowing summer sky. Using sponge and tissue, the artist blends land and cloud with delicate white lines that unify the entire scene, crafting a tranquil view of the Scottish Highlands.
