Cutty Sark Watercolour
The first stage in producing the painting was to sketch the hull and masts in their proportion and set the image centred on the paper. Next came the sails. Washes of the sky, the hull and the sea give depth of field and character. Followed by the washes applied to the masts and sails.
The use of Pen and Ink to ensure the accuracy of the rigging was the last addition to the watercolour.
Brief History
The Cutty Sark was almost destroyed in a fire. After a refit, the vessel now lies in dry dock at Greenwich in London. She is the last remaining restored Tea Clipper of its type. The watercolour is an admiration of her.

George –
As someone fascinated by old ships, seeing the Cutty Sark painted with such care is a treat. The rigging and sails are so delicately handled, and it brings a sense of adventure and nostalgia for the age of sail.
