Kylesku Slipway (Original)
£300.00
Kylesku Slipway was a commissioned painting presented as a gift to a couple in remberance of their visits over a number of years to a favourite holiday spot.
It is a historical view of the area before the bridge construction.
A simple but satisfying piece of art.

The Watercolour
Kylesku is an area between the Highland villages of Ullapool and Scourie on the north-west coast of Scotland. The only road there crossed Locha Chairn Bhain by ferry going back into history. The need to provide good communications given the ferry was small resulted in the Ferry Slipway being side-tracked to a new Bridge built and opened in July 1984.
I was contacted to see whether I could paint a watercolour of Kylesku Slipway as a gift in Remberance of visits by a couple over a number of years as a holiday spot. I had been there myself many years ago before the bridge construction and was able to find photographs that represented the area at that time.
The thoughts that came to mind was a watercolour that would show the expanse of the wild area round the sea inlet yet also the small settlement bordering the Slipway, and a strong light that showed the sky, ground and buildings in perspective.
The sketching was creative and wash colours subdued with a final detail to show the ultimate painting one would expect when visiting that remote area. It was a privilege to paint and also restored happy memories of my own familiesโ visit all those years ago.
Kylesku forms part of the โNorth 500โ road route round the North of Scotland.

Ruby –
The slipway at Kylesku looks so quiet and calm. The gentle gradient into the water and the distant hills make me think of sleepy afternoons on the west coast watching ferries come and go.
