Portsoy Inner Harbour Watercolour
The area has such wonderful shapes lines and tones that my watercolour had to be painted.
The range of colours keeps the mind focused
Brief History
Portsoy Harbour became famous for the Herring Drifters that moored there and dried their sails. The herring was gutted, salted, barrelled and exported to the European mainland. Return journeys made other imports possible – such as lumber.
The harbour area is now famous for the Portsoy marble jewellery made there. The annual Boat Festival is also well known. It attracts visits by period and modern sailing boats to celebrate the harbour.
The area has been used to film “Peakie Blinders” television drama. The re-make of the famous Compton MacKenzie film “Whisky Galore” was filmed there.
