Aylesford Bridge
Price range: £10.00 through £40.00
Nestled along the banks of the River Medway, Aylesford is a picturesque village. The timeless charm and natural beauty have inspired countless artists to capture its essence on canvas, and it is with great pleasure that I present my watercolour painting of Aylesford Bridge.
The Painting
The sketching took some time to achieve the right proportions from the bridge on the front, through the buildings, to the church at the rear and trees as the backdrop. The painting was built up in a number of washes of quiet colours to give meaning to the overall picture.
The focal point of this artwork is undoubtedly the enchanting Aylesford Bridge, gracefully arching over the tranquil waters of the river. The bridge, with its stone structure and delicate details, exudes a sense of history and heritage. It’s elegant curves and subtle play of light and shadow make it a captivating subject for any artist.
Some Local History
This painting is an example of typical access to an English town, where there is a sense of history disappearing as towns extend. The bridge and buildings give a view of construction now long gone that straddles a tidal river.
Aylesford was originally a small riverside settlement. The old village comprises around 60 houses, many of which were formerly shops on a single short high street forming the village.
