By producing a detailed sketch of the faรงade, there was scope to lay in washes that gave a depth of field. The watercolour adds definition by using pen and ink. The areas of dirt painted on walls add further character.

Some History
The various extensions added by the Fraser Family created the courtyard seen on the painting. The carved panel over Castle Fraserโs main original entrance shows the family coat of arms guarded on either side by dormer windows.
Embellishments to the structure include two storey bartizans, gunloops, slits and shot-holes.

The detailed entrance of Castle Fraser makes me think of tales from centuries past. The carefully drawn towers and courtyard feel almost storybook-like, and the soft colours make the scene inviting rather than imposing.
