Cley Windmill Watercolour
This painting was a simple subject. The sketch had to get the two sides drawn in harmony. Thereafter the infill top balconies roof and adjoining buildings set in synergy make a pleasant subject. The washes laid on the buildings were soft terracottas and siennas that gave the subject age. The surrounding land water and sky washes are soft colours.
Some History
Built in the early part of the 18th century Cley Windmill is a well-known landmark on the north Norfolk coast.
Іt has а dome-shaped cap wіth а gallery whіch wаs originally wind-driven by аn eight-bladed fantail. There are four sails with a 70-foot span.
It was used as a flour mill over a short period but it was converted and has been mostly used as a private residence. Currently, it is a B&B.

Charlotte –
Visiting the Norfolk Broads brings back summer family memories. This painting captures that breezy day near the mill without being too fussy. It would look lovely in a bright kitchen or hallway.
